Oregon Nikkei Legacy Center: Japanese American History

Oregon Nikkei Legacy Center shares and preserves Japanese American history and culture in Portland's Old Town neighborhood, where Japantown once thrived.

Located on 2nd Avenue just a block and a half south of the Lan Su Classical Chinese Garden, the museum presents artifacts from early Japanese settlers of Oregon and those caught up in the turmoil of World War II and Japanese Internment. Interesting art exhibitions also rotate through the beautiful space in the historic building.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 seniors (62+)/students, and free for children 11 and under.

Group tours of the museum and/or the Japanese American Historical Plaza (located 2 blocks east in Waterfront Park), speaking engagements for classrooms or other community groups, and research appointments at the Legacy Center are available.

I love your museum, the Historical Plaza, and your mission to protect the civil rights of all Americans. Every American needs to study the history of Japanese Americans so we do not repeat the mistakes of the past.

Thank you for your work and contributions to Old Town Portland and all Oregonians!
