It’s a two-day event, but it boasts more spirits than most of us can name. (No, I'm not talking about ghosts.) I’m talking about the Great American Distillers Festival.
The brief event nonetheless attracts an international flock of fans to imbibe in a mixture of liquors, rums, whiskeys, vodkas and more. It’s held in Portland, and features vendors, recipes, retro drinks and spirit aficionados of every stripe.
Come for product tastings, to learn about local distillers, and to taste the freshest drinks on the market. Artisan distillers will be on hand to answer questions and discuss techniques. Vendors will offer samples of a wide range of hand-crafted rum, bourbon, whiskey, vodka and gin. There is also food available on-site for purchase.
As of this year, the Great American Distillers Festival has expanded its offerings to include an after-hours blues concert, a workshop on cooking with spirits, and a special dinner event. There is also the “Great American Spirits” bottle competition, with awards handed out in lieu of categories.
Admission to the event is set at $25 per person, with advance, discounted tickets available online. Proceeds benefit local and national charities, as well as the Oregon Distillers Guild. The event is restricted to adults age 21 and over.
