Haystack Rock: Cannon Beach

No matter what time of year you visit, Haystack Rock is a must see! It is a 235-foot (72-meter) sea stack in Cannon Beach, Oregon. It is thought to be the third-tallest such "intertidal" (meaning it can be reached by land) structure in the world.

Haystack Rock is located about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) south of downtown Cannon Beach and about 80 miles (130 km) west of Portland. The nearest major road is U.S. Route 101, which can be easily reached from Portland and other points east via Route 26, the Sunset Highway.

I recommend parking at the Tolovana Beach State Recreation Site (W Warren Way, Tolovana Park, OR 97145). The parking lot is free. The walk up the beach is very nice from there.
