Portland City Tour with Wildwood Adventures

There is a magical place located within the confluence of two major rivers, at the base of a volcano and surrounded by old growth forests, with nicknames like “Bridgetown” and "Brewtopia." The city that embodies all of these features and so much more, is Portland Oregon. We will immerse you in the town's history and tell you how the once little-known fishing village has now become a popular international destination. Come see the wonderful city that Wildwood Adventures calls home and get a taste of the charm that Portland offers to its explorers!

This is a half day tour, typically offered from (9AM - 12PM) or (2PM - 5PM). Please note, the tour route and sights may vary depending on the time of year and weather conditions. It is always our goal to provide you with the most interesting adventure possible.

The pick-up and drop-off location will be in Director Park in downtown Portland. This location is easily accessible via the public transit system (MAX line, street car and bus) and is also within walking distance of most downtown hotels. If you are arriving by car, there are convenient public parking garages nearby.

We offer complimentary pick-up and drop-off from over 20 downtown hotels. Please select your hotel in the drop down list when making your reservation and we will contact you 2 days before the tour to confirm pick up timing.

Typical Itinerary:

We will start the tour in the heart of the city, downtown Portland. Here we will meander our way through the Cultural District, the Park Blocks, Portland State University and the financial district. We will drive along the Tom McCall Waterfront Park on the Willamette River, voted one of America's ten greatest public spaces by the American Planning Association in October 2012! This park is the site of numerous Portland festivals throughout the year including the Oregon Brewers Festival, the Waterfront Blues Festival, and the Bite of Oregon. This is also the hot spot for year-round recreation with beautiful greenways for walking, biking, running, skate boarding and fountain playing!

Our first stop will be in the South Waterfront, to take a ride on the famed Portland Aerial Tram! The tram is one of only two commuter aerial tramways in the United States (the other being New York City's Roosevelt Island Tramway). The tram will sweep us from the South Waterfront district to the top of Marquam Hill (also known as Pill Hill). We'll be traveling a horizontal distance of 3,300 feet (1,000 m) and a vertical distance of 500 feet (150 m) on a ride that lasts three minutes! At the top we will find amazing views of downtown Portland and the surrounding volcanic Cascade Mountains including Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Rainier and Mt. Adams!

We'll swing by Pioneer Courthouse Square, also known as Portland's Living Room, and then we will continue on our way to the beautiful Washington Park. We will drive through and point out the wonders of this 400-acre urban park: the International Rose Test Gardens, the Japanese Gardens, the Hoyt Arboretum, the Oregon Zoo and the World Forestry Center. Our second stop on the tour will be a stroll through the rose gardens, where we will find over 7000 rose plants of over 550 varieties! During the winter season, when the rose garden is not at it's peak, we will substitute this stop with a stop at the Hoyt Arboretum, where we will learn about the trees and plants of the Pacific Northwest!

From here, we'll explore more of Portland's most famous neighborhoods, including Nob Hill and NW 23rd street, the Pearl district (where we will find another Portland landmark: Powell's Books, the world's largest new and used book store!) and the historic Chinatown district.

Our last stop on the tour will be the beautiful Lan Su Chinese Garden, one the most authentic Chinese gardens outside of China! We'll have a chance to stroll and explore the garden, before making our way back into downtown Portland!
