Downtown Portland Sidewalk Ambassadors

In 2015, the Downtown Portland Sidewalk Ambassadors assisted 34,250 visitors from 76 countries and walked a combined total of 4,717 miles!

The hospitality, information and wayfinding program is a part of Downtown Portland Clean & Safe, a program that exists to manage the Business Improvement District, providing cleaning, security and hospitality services to a 213-block area that extends from Portland State University to Union Station.

The green-clad Ambassadors serve to make downtown Portland a more friendly, approachable and enjoyable place. Less obviously, the Sidewalk Ambassadors are another set of eyes and ears ensuring downtown Portland is safe and secure. The Ambassadors are out and about from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm Tuesday through Saturday, year round.

The “green team” staff a mobile kiosk created by local company Icicle Tricycle, which they move to different locations in downtown’s core retail district. The Ambassadors also set up an unmanned kiosk (weather allowing), located at Portland Art Museum, from which visitors can help themselves to brochures.

How can an Ambassador help? Ask these roving concierges for dining recommendations, the low-down on the current events and performing arts, assistance with your public transit trip plan or the location of a specific business. These guys make it their business to know downtown Portland.
