Nob Hill Eats - Northwest Portland

Portland’s Nob Hill neighborhood on NW 23rd and 21st Avenues (an easy trip on the NS Portland Streetcar or the #15 TriMet bus) offers one of the most wonderfully rich dining neighborhoods in the city. The easy charm of the Victorian house-lined streets and assortment of excellent indoor and outdoor venues from which to select a fantastic drink, treat, happy hour or dinner make it a dining hot spot for visitors and locals alike.

If you have come up to Nob Hill for a casual or quick bite, you are sure to have a fantastic experience at Santa Fe Taqueria (great outdoor seating and margaritas), Thai Bloom! or the new Boxer Ramen location. You can take it up a notch with brunch or happy hour at The Fireside (with the indoor fireplace, open air dining or patio seating, any table is reminiscent of an outdoor cookout), Bamboo Sushi, Papa Haydn (a lovely dinner spot and one of the best dessert locations in town), the adjacent Jo Bar & Rotisserie (try the Cobb Salad!) or Italian/Mediterranean date spot Serratto. A fairly new addition to the neighborhood is The Waiting Room in one of the largest and most impressive Victorians at NW 23rd and Johnson – try the Fried Chicken, Oysters and Hush Puppies.

And of course you have heard about the famous treats of Nob Hill! Lining up at Salt & Straw is definitely worth the wait, with the stellar ice cream's fresh, natural Pacific Northwest ingredients. Swing by Blue Star Donuts as well for some of the best – and most interesting! – donuts anywhere. Alotto Gelato features a variety of scrumptious Italian ice cream flavors, perfect for taking along on a stroll down Northwest 23rd Avenue. You can also try some of our locally made confections at Moonstruck Chocolates. One thing is certain – your sweet tooth will be satisfied on this street!

Want something exceptional to drink? Sip local and international wine selections at Taste On 23rd – the outdoor seating area is just gorgeous, and right in the swing of things! Or enjoy some bubble tea at Fat Straw. If you are in the mood for sampling the finest coffees, head over to Barista. Or if a local microbrew is what you are craving, McMenamins The Rams Head (2282 N.W. Hoyt St.) is a lot of fun.

Lastly, don’t forget to explore Westover Street, a delightful loop just beyond Northwest 23rd and Burnside. You can find delicious Thai Food at Khao Soy, handmade breads and pastries at Lovejoy Bakers and the best cuts of meat (or tasty bentos to go) at Phil’s Meat Market.

Prices vary, but $10.00 is about the average of what you will spend, with drinks and treats costing about $5.00, and entrees ranging from around $10.00 - $20.00.
