Disjecta: Highlighting Contemporary Art

There’s a place in the City of Roses where you can find a dynamic, rotating collection of local and national art, curated with an eye towards bold innovation. Portland, meet Disjecta Gallery. Tucked away in the Kenton neighborhood, this small artistic treasure has grown in the past decade-plus from scrappy artistic underdog to one of PDX’s favorite galleries.

For over 17 years, Disjecta has championed its mission of connecting visionary artists with an engaged audience. They do this via a cycle of exhibitions with themes and artists intended to spark ideas, involvement and discussions about the larger artistic environment. It’s a gallery that serves as a hub, a launching pad and Portland art gem.

Some of this nonprofit’s programming includes their Biennial of Contemporary Art, which showcases the best of Oregon contemporary art. They also have a Curator-in-Residence program, which draws artistic innovators from around the state and nation for a year in Portland and a full season of Disjecta exhibitions.

Lastly, their newest program – Culinaria – seeks to connect culinary creativity with art galleries by featuring intimate explorations of Portland’s food scene. Normal gallery hours are Friday–Sunday, 12 - 5 p.m. During the Biennial (July 9th through September 18th) the gallery is open Wednesday–Saturday, 12 - 5 p.m. Closed on Sundays.
