Great Food and Drink in Portland's Ankeny Alley

Love outdoor seating? Isn't it fantastic to have a place to enjoy a coffee, microbrew, cocktail or Voodoo Doughnut in the hustle and bustle of a crowd enjoying themselves, but away from auto traffic?

Visit Ankeny Alley (where Voodoo Doughnut is located at 22 SW 3rd Avenue) near Skidmore Fountain where the Portland Saturday Market is held each weekend if this is your type of scene. There are a variety of outstanding eateries and excellent bars all located in a tiny angled street near the "Keep Portland Weird" sign. It's all very Portland and very charming.

You will know you are at Ankeny Alley when you see the line outside Voodoo Doughnut. Keep going to where there are outdoor tables and lights strung overhead.

In the mood for something fantastic to imbibe? Shanghai Tunnels is reputed to have bonafide authentic Long Island Iced Teas (one will probably do you!). Step back in time to the prohibition-era at hidden gem speakeasy District. Or check out the eclectic Calendar of Events at Valentine's! Fuse on the corner across from Vodoo Doughnut has coffees in the morning and cocktails in the evening.

Hungry? Some of Portland's finest Dining Bucket List stops are inside Ankeny Alley. Dan and Louis Oyster Bar is a five-generation family-owned seafood joint with the best fried platters and creamy stews in town. There's a full bar and a delightful nautical vibe. Have breakfast at Opaline's or some gorgeous rolls at SuBe Sushi. And of course there are those doughnuts!

This is an adorable corner in downtown Portland and should definitely be a part of your experience of Portland, whether you are a local or a visitor.

Gotta love Portland Saturday Market right there, too--and all the other great places within a few blocks!
