As the world gets smaller we seek to create meaning in our lives. Personal ideas, opinions and struggles are awash in the undulating voice of a collective. I wish to express, in some small way, the struggle for meaning today. It is my little love letter to the individual.
A series of multiple-exposure portraits using black and white film, the pictures will be exposed twice, once using a dark background and the models face/body changed by use of various props and paints to offset them from the concealing secondary exposure of various backgrounds. The aim is to create a blending of these backgrounds into an abstract composite.
Once printed, the photos will be hung alongside the backgrounds/props (space allowing) in an elementary way. The background will represent a large contrast between the stark white of the photographs borders, highlighting the breaking through.
Salem Art Association exhibitions are always free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday from 10:00 AM-5:00 PM, and Saturday-Sunday from 12:00-5:00 PM.
