Oregon Ballet Theatre (OBT) will present James Canfield’s production of Romeo & Juliet, following an absence of over 15 years. Romeo & Juliet will be performed at Keller Auditorium (222 SW Clay St.) February 27th through March 5th. To make the occasion even more memorable, Oregon Ballet Theatre’s Orchestra will be performing live at each show.
James Canfield created the ballet in 1989 for Pacific Ballet Theatre, which merged with Ballet Oregon to become Oregon Ballet Theatre in 1990. The production was beloved from the start, and was performed many times during Mr. Canfield’s time as Artistic Director of Oregon Ballet Theatre. Mr. Canfield had performed the role of Romeo to rave reviews for the Joffrey Ballet, working hard to express the youthful exuberance of the character despite his seemingly incongruous six-foot-three stature.
For Oregon Ballet Theatre’s production, two casts will alternate in the iconic roles: Principal Artist Xuan Cheng will play the role of Juliet with Soloist Peter Franz as Romeo. Soloist Ansa Deguchi will be Juliet with Principal Artist Brian Simcoe as her lover. The passionate and unforgettable story is set to a score by Sergei Prokofiev.
Ticket prices range from $29.00 to $146.00. For more information or to purchase tickets, go to http://www.obt.org.
