Check out our long-awaited Woodlawn Triangle Street Painting! This vibrant mural was collaboratively designed by two neighborhood artists, Adam Ciresi and Jerry Quenton.
This mural is painted at the Woodlawn Neighborhood Farmers Market site, on NE Durham Avenue between Dekum and Madrona. The market has amazing local food, live music, and great community every Saturday from 10-2.
The Woodlawn street mural at Dekum and Durham celebrates our neighborhood’s rich history and diverse community. The mural begins by weaving together the neighborhood’s long history of the black community, colorfully painted in Jerry’s well known Afro-folk style. The swirling colors then flourish into the heart of Woodlawn, with the historical street car at the center of the mural that once helped connect Woodlawn with the City of Portland. The street car is surrounded by long stalks of corn, representing our Latino community in Woodlawn. In the center of the painting, a young girl kneels on top of the street car with a basket of produce raised high into the air, symbolizing our neighborhood’s growing support for the Woodlawn Farmers Market, and the many local food gardens found all over the neighborhood. Behind the girl are the traditional single, double and triple family homes that help to characterize the region, all nestled in a thick of tall trees.
This mural is meant to be a reflection and celebration of diversity, and will reside as an immersive mural for hope and community in the years to come.
